Professor Tanaka is a consultant Rheumatologist and the Chairman of the First Department of Internal Medicine, School of Medicine, University of Occupational and Environmental Health, Japan. He is the Dean of Graduate School of Medical Science, University of Occupational and Environmental Health, Japan. In addition, Prof. Tanaka holds the positions of the Chair of International Affairs, Co-Chair of Scientific Committee, APLAR, and the President of Japanese Society of Clinical Immunology. Prof. Tanaka is a pioneer in work on bench-to-bedside research identifying mechanisms underlying rheumatic and autoimmune diseases, foster collaborations between basic and clinical scientists and facilitate clinical trials of innovative therapies in the department, the institution, the region, the country and international levels.
